Default RAM upgrade

hi. i have a hp pavilion dv2315nr of the dv2000 series laptop. its original ram was 1GB, 2 sticks of 512MB. the manual that came with the computer said that its memory is only upgradeable to 2GB; however, this afternoon, i bought a 2GB Transcend memory stick and installed it to my laptop. since it has two slots, i left the other 512MB memory stick on the other slot and put the new 2GB stick on the other. after i turned on my computer, i was surprised when i checked the specifications. it said that my laptop was running on 2500MB memory. is it really running on 2500MB memory or is the 2GB stick the only one that's running? after all, the manual said that its memory can only be expanded to 2GB.

i'll be waiting for your response. thank you so much

Go here:

Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com

Take the scan options - this will tell you what your PC's memory can do.

Hello.

I went to the website you gave me and had the scan. It said that my laptop can only be upgraded to 2gb with 1gb each slot. The new memory I bought and installed is a 2gb memory. The other slot of my computer had the old 512mb memory in it. Is it possible that my computer is currently running on 2.5gb when it's supposed maximum memory is just 2gb??? When I check the properties of my computer, it says that it's running on 2500mb.

Please answer my questions. I am really confused. Thank you.

I suggest you remove the old strip. You might end up having problem with the memory when the processor tries to access both strips.
The memory count could be accurate for counting purposes only.
