Default 2nd DIMM = No Startup

I bought a second DIMM for my PC and once I installed it the PC wouldn't turn on. The DIMMS are identical, and each one works in either of my 2 slots, but if they're both installed then nothing works. My Motherboard is the crappy ASUS M2N MX SE Plus. Any ideas? I tried new BIOS, chipset and other drivers... nothing doing.

are they both double sided sounds like a Motherboard conflict

What size and speed are they as in gig etc?

(Dual channel memory architecture
2 x 240-pin DIMM, support max. 4GB DDR2 800/667/533 ECC and non-ECC,un-buffered memory).

What operating system are you using?

Does this RAM need configuring in BIOS?

Thanks for the replies guy! I have 2 Kingston DDR2 1G 800MgHz sticks... the motherboard manual identifies both make and model as compatible, so it's no problem there.

I'm using WinXP Home SP2, and the DIMMS are exactly the same. At first I thought I was sold a bad DIMM so I went back to the store and was given a new one. After that didn't work, I went back and they replaced my older (Jan 2008) DIMM with one from the same batch as I bought last week; they gave me two brand new identical DIMMS. That didn't work either. It has to be another Motherboard related issue since I know both slots and both DIMMS work.

Looking in the BIOS and I can't really see anything that I could change. Any BIOS info would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks again!

Yes I read your computer specs and you are right they are compatable.

And only one stick will work at a time?

I know you are supposed to put a single stick nearest CPU have you tired a single stick in the next slot without one in first slot?

I maybe wrong on this one but maybe turn off pc and then power take out BIOS battery for one minute then replace.reboot pc with both sticks in.

In BIOS RAM should be set to auto.
