Default Upgrading my RAM...

I have 504 MB or RAM currently. It is DDR 400 MHZ and I want to upgrade to 2-1GB Kingston sticks. I know that I have to remain with strictly DDR, but was unsure of whether or not the MHZ has to be the same. I also dont know how many pins my RAM is. Is there anyway to tell how many it is? Where should I go from here? I need a solution quick, my computer runs like a turtle! Thanks everybody.

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

If you could go to your user cp and list your hard ware of your computer and check show others this would help greatly.

You would proberly need 184 pin or another type.

Use this scanner and post results back here on thread:Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com

The scanner will give you details of RAM that is compatable and how much max RAM you computer can actualy have installed.

If we have your listed make and model of motherboard this would also help your issue.

Ok, I did that. It said 2-1GB sticks is the way to go. I think I found what I needed. Is there any other way to speed up an Intel 2.4GHZ Pentium 4? It's struggling.

Well speeding up your CPU?
Well the RAM upgrade will take the pressure off your CPU.
You will find your computer runs smoother and web-pages open quicker and you can do a few more things like WMP playing your fav music without stuttering or dragging.

You can what your CPU tick over nicely.

The RAM is the way to go.

SD RAM is Synchronous Dynamic RAM, whereas DDR SDRAM is Double Data Rate SDRAM. In other words, at the same clock speed, DDR has twice the theoretical maximum bandwith of SDRAM. (SDRAM @100 mhz= 800MB/s, DDR @ 100mhz (200mhz effective)= 1600MB/s
