Post [Answered] Ram Compatibility

Im currently on my folks computer
and I was curious about adding some more ram to it.

their computer has this for memory
(this computer has VIA chipsets as well)

Module Name Hyundai HYMD264 646D8J-D43
Serial Number 1C1C51CCh
Module Size 512 MB (2 ranks, 4 banks)
Module Type Unbuffered
Memory Type DDR SDRAM
Memory Speed PC3200 (200 MHz)
Module Width 64 bit
Module Voltage SSTL 2.5
Refresh Rate Reduced (7.8 us), Self-Refresh

Memory Timings:
@ 200 MHz 3.0-3-3-8 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
@ 166 MHz 2.5-3-3-7 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
@ 133 MHz 2.0-2-2-6 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

NOW, my dad had brought home a desktop that had an extra stick of memory
which is this:
Kingston KVR266/512R

I was wondering if I would be able to install this? Would it work with the current RAM that is in?

Default Re: Ram Compatibility

Hi, it would physically fit and it would work but it would cause the stick of ram currently fitted to run at the slower speed of the stick that you wanna add. The current stick is PC3200 which runs at 400mhz and the new stick is PC2100 which runs at 266mhz

D

Default Re: Ram Compatibility

I went from one stick of PC3200, added a PC2700 and didnt notice much in the way of improvement, but as its a relatively simple task to put a stick of ram in, i`d say try it and see how well it works on that particular system
