Does my system support High Density ram?
High Density ram, I've found, is much cheaper than low density but it has compatibility issues. Now I could have 2 gigs of memory in my PC for less than $50 if my system will support High Density memory but I've had no luck in finding this, can somebody here tell me (for sure) if it will?
Motherboard: Gigabyte K8NS-Pro Socket 754
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2ghz
RAM Type: PC2100, 2700, or 3200 DDR supported, 1gb/slot max, 3 slots

Re: Does my system support High Density ram?
I've never heard of high-density/low-density RAM O.o

Re: Does my system support High Density ram?
Oh, well, depends what size, if you have a 2Gbs chip, it'll be high density, if it's 512Mbs, it'll be low density, but you can't buy High or Low density RAM, you don't really have a choice, manufacturers always go with the cheapest/best option though, and yes, all motherboards support high/low density RAM, provided the module type is one supported by your motherboard, i.e. PC3200, PC6400,...

Re: Does my system support High Density ram?
I'm sorry but that's incorrect. High Density memory refers to the way the chips are set up, for example, a High Density 1gb stick will be expressed as 128x4 while a Low Density stick will be 64x8. It's been said that High Density ram is supported by only 1 out of 4 modern motherboards, I want to know if mine is one of them.
The term has nothing to do with the size of the stick

Re: Does my system support High Density ram?
Well yes it does, I think you'd be hard pressed to make a 2Gbs stick with only 32mbs chips
I don't know where you found the information that only some motherboards handle high density ram, all it is is bigger/smaller chips on the module

Re: Does my system support High Density ram?
Hmm, I did some research, seems you don't want High Density RAM even if your motherboard supports it as apparently High Density RAM is slow.
I would venture to say your motherboard probably doesn't support High Density RAM mainly due to the fact it's not exactly the latest tech out there.
So far in my research there's little way of knowing whether or not your motherboard supports high density RAM unless you try it, and apparently some people have been able to use High Density RAM of some types, but not of others i.e. PC3200 but not PC2800.
Sorry for not catching on quickly, I only now have been able to use my laptop and not mobile device to browse the forums.

Re: Does my system support High Density ram?
It's okay, you're probably right. I figured that but the price was just sooooooooo low I couldn't resist the possibility
