Default Memory / Speed Advice

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my memory and have a query or two which maybe someone out there can help with. Since i added my wireless router to my PC, i've noticed that even when not using the internet, its slowed up a little.

For example, when i open Control Panel, the icons are not there, but they take about 10 seconds to 'load' themselves in, whereas previously they'd just appear instantly.

I've cleaned up system with PC Pitstop and ran disk defragmenter to see if it helps, but nothing really improves, so i'm assuming i need more memory.

Having sought earlier advice from this wonderful forum, i've downloaded the Belarc programme also have been to crucial.com for a memory scan and have attached the results in this post.

Forgive me for being a dummy, but i'm still unsure as to what memory to buy. I've looked on the web but there are so many different types - different Mhz etc, so if anyone can read my system and offer any advice, i'd be extremely grateful.

Maybe the reason my icons are so slow at loading is nothing to do with memory - i don't know, but i'll still upgrade anyway as its reasonably inexpensive.

Thanks
D

Hi dame, have you tried Everest free home edition, run that on your PC it will give you a clue on what to upgrade your machine to.I have the same CD/DVD R installed on my pc,lol and exteranl drive but myne is 300 gig lol.

Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

More RAM does a pc good.Yes adding more programms, software etc does slow a pc down.

Cheers JB - will try that when i get home tonight, then i'll purchase the relevant memory if Everest gives me a conclusive answer. *sigh* - which i thought crucial would do, but it left me in the dark.

Perhaps its the memory in my head that needs upgrading

Seems as though you are already maxed out.

Really Robert?

I was under the impression i could take out the 2 x 512 chips and insert 2 x 1megs - but i'm really not sure.

I suppose i need to find out what type of motherboard i have - but have no idea how to. Will get googling.

Ta for the reply.
