Re: New RAM
FWiW, I just rechecked the Gigabyte QVL listing, and the Corsair RAM I have installed is on the list. I guess I'll try contacting Corsair and pick their brain and/or possibly RMA the memory back to Newegg. The RAM seems to function OK, but it makes no sense why CPU-Z, LookInMyPC, and Belarc won't report the specifications correctly. I have a test CD or floppy around here somewhere so I may run it.

Re: New RAM
The latest version of CPU-Z, recently released, correctly reports all RAM parameters and then some. Obviously I won't have to RMA the memory now, and a recheck of the Gigabyte website now lists the Corsair PC 8500 RAM. I had emailed Gigabyte before I bought the RAM to see if it was supported and received an email confirmation. It looks like they added the item to the Supported Memory list afterwards.

Re: [Resolved] New RAM
I found this old Thread of mine marked 'Resolved', and want to add the conclusion for the story in case anyone can use it in the future, or might give a flip!!.
When I upgraded the BIOS from F5 to F11 to include support for all of the CPU's under consideration, the various reporting problems I was having with the DDR2 1066 RAM disappeared.
