Default 4 beeps of death

Have a d845bvd intel motherboard, says it will take up to 2 gig of memory. bought 2 1 gig sticks. ddr 266 pc2100, all indications from various suppliers say it will work. Installed after video card removal as suggested, all I have happen at boot is no video, and four beeps. (of death) then nothing. Power stays on but no other activity. P4 2.4g. 60 gig seagate works with 2 256 sticks. Any suggestions???
