Default Ram slots 1&3 not working

Ok, I have a ECS PF5 Extreme motherboard(1.0a), Intel P4 630 (3.0ghz), I'm using Xp sp2 build 2600. The Ram I've been using for almost 3 years now is two sticks of 512mb pc2-4300 ddr2-533 cl=4,4,4,12 Model gx21gb4300x. The Ram as specified in the manual is in slots 2 and 4.

I purchased two identical sticks of the same ram and put them in slots 1&3 along side the old ram. My computer did not and does not see them. I used the new ram alone in slots 2&4 and they worked fine. I used the old ram mixed with the new ram in slots 2&4 and they worked fine. I updated my bios via ecsusa.com properly which led to more problems(hdd doesn't work, I've had this trouble in the past and somehow fixed it). So my bios is updated. I tried using both new and old sticks in the 1&3 slots alone to no avail. My ram sticks are good. It appears Slots 1&3 are bad. Does anyone know if this can be fixed without buying a new Motherboard?

PS: Side note: The WD hdd is not seen now that I have updated bios. I tried flashing my bios back to original bios via 2 different methods, both of which resulted in non recognition of the WD hdd.
