Question memory configuration

If my motherboard supports "Dual channel DDR2 800", has 4 DDR2 DIMM slots and is running XP...which configuration/combination of RAM is best?:

Configuration1: 1Gb; 1Gb; 1Gb; 1Gb (as i will be running XP in 32bit, i know that some memory will not be recognised by my computer ~0.5Gb)

Configuration2: 1Gb; 1Gb; 512Mb; 512Mb

Configuration3: 2Gb; 2Gb; N/A; N/A; (same note as configuration 1)

Configuration4: 512Mb; 512Mb; 512Mb; 512Mb

Configuration5: 1Gb; 1Gb; N/A; N/A

or is there a better configuration

If you want to run 1 gig, run 2x 512, if you want to run 2, run 2x 1024, if you want to run 4 gigs, run 4x 1024

yea run 4 1gb sticks concurrently and try if you could to buy matching sticks, reason being so they can all run at the same time( theres no difference in speed or config )

It really does not matter as long as you have 4 ram slots.. But make sure they are in the same bank, if you put a stick on 1 and 3 or 4 it wont be dual channel make sure to either put it in banks 1 and 2 or banks three and 4.. But those combo's dont matter in speed.
