I have a Mb that supports both ddr400(2 slots) or ddr2 533(2slots).
Is it safe to assume that the ddr2 533 memory would be the faster of the two options?
Also, with game playing in mind. If the motherboard can support up to 2gb of memory would a matched set of 512mb each Kingston Hyper X PC2 4300 be better than a mached set of 1gb value select PC2 4200 Stix?

If 2gb is the maximum memory allowed would 2 stix of 1024mb(1gb) exceed the limit of 2gb by 50mbs which would mean one of the 1gb stix would have to be replaced with a 512mb?

Yes, your absolutely right, ddr2 533 is much faster. In fact ddr 2 = double the data rate of standard ddr. Also, Kingston is the best quality RAM money can buy. I would make sure that you get 2gb of the same memory also, and get rid of your old ddr chips (if your not planning this already). 2gb (2048mb) is the limit of XP but it can be increased to 3gb if necessary.
