I was wondering if someone could clarify for me please.

My computer originally came installed with a 512mb card and i recently aqquired a 256 card and installed it. Am i correct in thinking that this was the reason my computer constantly kept crashing?

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Has it crashed since you installed more memory?

It crashed in the period that the memory was left in the computer. As i received multiple error messages from windows claiming it was a newly installed hardware i removed it. This seems to have stopped the problem but was hoping for clarification that this is a known problem and wether I should expect to keep receiving the message or if i have potentially removed the problem.

Thanks

With your original memory go here:

Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com

This will tell you your memory options. Ensure your new memory card is allowable under the given options (for instance it might need to be paired or is the wrong type)

If your new 256 is allowed then replace the original 512 with it and see what happens. It may be faulty.

I have just spent 2 days trying to figure out about my computer's memory. I even went to Gateway chat and they kept pushing me to buy from them. Didn't really answer my questions.

The link to Crucial.com that elpmek provided gave me most of my answers in about 5 minutes.

Duh, I should have just come here instead.

Thanks for the link!!!!
