Default confusing memory iformations

i am planning to upgrade my ram capacity sothat it would run faster and be able to play some games with it. I read so many stuff about replacing rams and finding the right/compatible ram for my system. at the momment i have 512MB of ram installed. i have a sony vaio pcv-rx560. then i unfortunately ran into this site(something about crucial) and said that tha only maximum ram i can install is 512. i cant believe that ****... so i research further more and found out that my motherboard is ASUS P4B-LX. iread all about it and is says in the manual that it suports up to 2GB. so im a little bit of confused here. if anyone can help me would be greatly appreciated. thank you all...

Hello iceman and welcome to PCHF
Your motherboard has 3 RAM slots, each of these slots can have a maximum of 512mb.
So you can indeed have more than 512mb, if you wanted 1gb you would have to buy 2, 512mb ram sticks and insert them in the 2 slots.

Hi welcome to PCHF Sorry dude only max of 512Mb it says at there site Sony consumer electronics guide: PCV-RX560 - More Specifications

Standard RAM 256 MB PC-133 SDRAM, expandable to 512 MB

It appears to be the same as ASUS P4B-LX you could try the memory upgrade and if it won't read the memory you could try flashing it with the ASUS P4B-LX bios ( Very risky but may work )

iceman600 most of the time it will just clip in and go but I have seen manufactures load a different version of the bios software on boards manufactured for them. It should work at the worst you may have to update the bios with the ASUS version of it and it should all be fine. let us know how you go
