Red face bad ram or bad board?

hi there had an accicdent with pc a few weeks back a bit of water got into Power Supply Unit from water cooling, bang oops.
thus far looks like i've only lost a hard drive, which is lucky considering the parts in this beast.
kandalf extreme case
striker extreme bios 1305
qx6850
2 x evga 8800ultra superclocked in sli,
1 256mb ageia physics
2 x 150gb raptor
1 x 160gb deskstar
1kw enermax galaxy (now a 1kw pc power and cooling Power Supply Unit)
4gb ocz pc 6400 enhanced bandwidth reaper edition ddr2

am dual booting xp and vista ultimate 64bit.
ok
since the accident my fresh install of vista has been very laggy on start up and seems very slow compared to how it was before.
also the windows experience index has gone down to 5.8 from 5.9 for the ram calculations.
have tried varying combinations in bios, altering timings, unlinked and linked with cpu, volts are 2.5 which was ok before. leaving ram at stock 800 speeds and timings as it was before, 433 15. tryed 444 15 no change.

have ran memtest for about 4 hours and came with no errors....until....
i ran memory sizing test on bios all.....
1059 errors and screen locks.
notice in bios at start bios say installed memory 4096, usable 4095?
odd
have tryed running the memtests with each stick individually in slot A1 and still get the 1059 errors.
could it be possible to blow the bios memory if there is one?
is so would it be cause of errors on memtest?
although all seems to be basically working ok, xp seems fine and nice and quick. although xp only uses just over 3gb of memory as it is 32bit.
any thoughts on this would be appreciated as had no reply on my last if somewhat vague post..
cheers in advance.
slippy

Default Re: bad ram or bad board?

A couple of ideas for you.

1. If XP is working well, then it is unlikely to be the BIOS. However, I would recommend resetting the BIOS to factory specs.

2. Strip your PC to a bare bones config.

3. Booting only into XP, pull out all but one memory strip.

Reboot to check each memory strip in turn.

One of the strips might be faults. If all is function correctly, replace non-bare bones components one at a time.

Do not reboot using Vista until all of the hardware components have been run OK via XP.

Lastly, make sure all the drivers are up to date.

Good Luck.
