Question Do all the slots have to be filled

Mk. Do all the memory slots need to be used for the computer to work?

I'm wondering because I'm getting some money from my (ex)wifes insurance policy , and I decided that I would get my brother a computer instead of giving him mine and me getting a better one (mainly because I want a car)... Umm... Point: I was wondering if I should by one or 2 big sticks or get 4 little ones.

If it variys from type to type this is what I am looking at: 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory.

Incase the police come before I have time to answer your post, thanks in advance.

****, I have to go now!!!

As long as the speed fits your motherboard specs you can fit any amount less than the max amoutn or the max amount. So yes you can have 1 slot full and 1 empty.Sec let me find a guys memory calc.

O thank you (police aren't here yet, whew)
I'd ask what a memory calculator is, but I think I'll find out when you post it

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - About Crucial:Media Toolbox

And it tells what kind of ram your pc can take. And also 3200 is on the low end of the scale now a days.
