Default [Pending] Uk Pc, Usa Ram ??

Hi people,

I have 512 of RAM in my UK emachine (PC2700). Bought a Gig from the US really cheap (but new) from a reputable store. Removed my 512 and insirted the Gig, PC on switch lights up but nothing else happens. Remove the Gig and put the 512 back, and she runs fine....but slower. What have I missed? US RAM different to UK RAM? Something else I'm supposed to know about? HELP. The RAM was only £20, so my pocket isn't hurting, but I obviously need to know to purchase the right thing because my brain is hurting.

Cheers all - Steve

that right there is most likely the problem. there is no difference between RAM from the US and UK, and they arent even made in those countries. It was cheap ram, and you got a DOA. (Dead on arrival) most likely. First, what model computer do you have, and i will find you some compatible memory.

Thanks AW,

I have an emachines 370. It had 256 Ram, which I upgraded to 512 by slotting another 256 in the second slot. It's not a flash computer, but it does the job. Are you saying that the RAM they sent me has a fault? Is there a way that I can test it? - Cheers, steve

Thanks for the link AW. Update for you. I have taken the ram across the road to a friends, slapped it in his spare port and he now has 1.5 gig ram. The ram is working fine, just not in my machine. I have two slots, both work as they both have 256 in and register as 512. what can be causing the ram not to work in my machine? are there limits as to how much ram yu can put in each slot? cheers

Steve
