Default New RAM works, old doesn't ??

Dell 4600 P4 3.4@1gig ... 2X 512MB DDR 400 XP Home
I install 2X 1024MB DDR 400 Mobo is rated for 4gig Max

According to System Spec Program 2gigRAM in system, it recognizes the 2X 512MB as being installed but not in total

My ONLY need for all that horsepower, is a Flight Simulation. Don't get me wrong, with 2gigs it looks great .... But I paid for 3. Seeing as I'm all thumbs, is there something I'm missing, that a Pro could find, without much bother $$$$ or is this a mystery?

try aranging the sticks like this, going from left mem slot to right; 1gb. 512mb. 1gb. 512mb

if that doesnt work try; 1gb. 1gb. 512mb. 512mb, depending on the layout of the mobo the config. for multiple sized memory sticks may be different

It registered with System Spec as 512, 512, Blank, Blank ........ 1gig RAM
NOW w/Sys Spec says:
512, 512, 1024, 1024 ..... 2gig RAM
I shot a PM in one of my other forums, to a guy up in Canada
He's a computer whiz ( prooven ). That's how he earns his living

He says I need to enter my BIOS and enable the Memory Remap Feature

The Bad News is, he NEVER seen this simulation, utilize more than 1.8gigsRAM

It might run smoother .... then again ... the difference might not be noticeable

Sooo for my money .. Don't wake up the Sleeping Giant !

THANKS for the concern
