Default weird RAM

Hey pchf , i just got myself 2 more gigs of RAM

funny thing is the BIOS shows 4GB RAM but when i right click my computer and go to properties it shows 3.25GB! any idea why?

I had a similar problem, except my BIOS wouldn't read the 3rd GB stick...

Turned out to be a BIOS setting, think i had to enable the mobo's chipset "Memory Remap Feature" if i remember right.

so what should i do about it? i couldnt find a "memory remap feature'

XP, 32 bit, will only ever see a maximum of 4Gb.

It's an OS limitation - though you could also have a hardware limit at the same time. Anyway, back to the point, that 4Gb includes any OS based memory such as your swop file. See here for a write up on the issue.

yup i read that somw where too , but i also know there is a way around it , so i sked pchf for its help

Ah yes, of course - when he said he right clicked my computer and only saw 3gb i assumed he was on Vista 64bit.

Most people (like myself) tend to buy the 64bit operating systems just so they can use 4gb, there's very little reason to stick 32bit now - and no, i dont get any compatability issues either
