Doing some more digging, the baord may be a bali (in a OEM packard bell machine) with the same board number. Confusing or what. Anyhow on normal POST, I can see:

Award Medallion Bios V6.00PG
K8VM800M-NF 1.0X

(then at bottom of screen)

11/06/2005 - K8VM800-8237-6A7LK03C-00

Does that help in any way?

Cheers

No-- you misunderstood-- I said 20 revisions-- meaning they had revised that particular model of mobo 20 times since release-- they are often very minor things that make a board look slightly different than it's predecessor. I did not know at that time which one you had-- and it in no way suggests 20 "updates" to the bios, or chipset, or anything.

Lots of manufacturers make several "lines" of hardware-- yes it IS confusing... but if you did the scan and that's all it come's up with.I would say you are all set there.

I must confess I have little experience with this company's stuff-- It's odd --to me... that they would require mis-matched RAM at the maximum.Usually it is just the opposite... in order to get full DDR RAM performance you must use identical sticks.

If you'll be patient I'll see what I can dig up.

Ok, final result from Gigabyte was that this boards is indeed a Pakard Bell OEM mobo and as such they cannot support me.

I amon the PB forums now, but not a great deal happening there except suggesting I flash with newest bios. But none of the revision notes mention anything to do with memory problems......

Thing is, all their execs that make bootable CDs that flash the bios must be run in XP - I'm on vista but can boot in XP.. Should I boot in XP, run the execs, make the CDs, boot from CD and flash bios then restart in vista....will vista go ape after doing this....

I may just go out and buy anothe mobo......suggestions (I am not loaded guys....lol)

cheers

No NO-- BIOS code is HARD-CODED directly into the Bios chip on the mobo--outside the operating system. Once there it stays... so if there's an update. Boot to XP and run the updater FROM XP... Vista will get it,too.
It's worth a try-- if you go out and replace the mobo -- you WILL have to re-install...hardware config is the first thing setup looks at.Mobo is the basis of everything

That does not mean that there are no updates to supported RAM makers/types

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
you may have a bad stick of RAM
There is a freeware test for RAM here.... scroll down the page/download/open the file to a floppy if you have one
...if not a CD version is there too. Reboot.
it will run itself with a few options you select. Let it run for a while...overnight even.
If errors show it is not guaranteed that it is the RAM-- it could be the mobo. Follow the link from the download page to their forums-- read the FAQ section --even print it if possible. It is not that hard to run --it's very simple--interpreting the errors/troubleshooting can be more difficult-- basically... no errors is good news.

Let me know-- i will subscribe to thread --so I can be back soonest.
