Default [Answered] adding RAM

Dear PCHF

i am about to receive a new pc but is only coming with one gb RAM and no graphics card so to save upgrading in the future i decided to get extra gig of ram ordered with my graphics card, to get them at the same time and put them in as new. The only problem is i am not sure what RAM is coming with the machine other than the fact i know it is 1gb and 533MHz. So does it matter if i get a kit of two 512mb sticks that will probably not match the exsisting RAM other than being 533MHz?

thanks for your help
wilf

it depends on the motherboard, really. I've installed a pile of twin 512's and 1 1 gigger, but I've also had a few that just wouldn't fly with it. If the speed matches, it *shouldn't* be an issue, but before you open the memory, be sure to read the owners manual for the mobo and it will say if you can do that or not.

all told, that would be the safest. If they are the same speed, it *should* work. Then again, if everything worked as it should, there would be no need for mechanics or technicians or duct tape, so there you are.

But the safest bet would be to wait on the ram. You could go get a nice video card now, though, as that is virtually a cinch to match.

I'll mark this as answered, if you need to post in here again, I'll leave it open.

Thanks,

v
