Many people believe that increasing
RAM will increase performance. However, this is only the case if you were using more than the installed amount of
RAM in the first place. When you have used up all your memory, the data is stored on your HDD instead. To check how much memory you are using, press [CTRL] + [ALT] + [DEL] and click on the
Performance tab. Under Physcial Memory you will see how much you have free. In reality, very few people use more than a gig, and you should check how much Available memory you have free with all your apps open, before purchasing more.
As for your blue screen of death, it's could well be faulty memory. This means that a location of memory is bad, and cannot be read or written to. There are tests that can be done to check memory, but first, can you follow the instructions for
BSOD's on my signature, and post a dump/log file back here. I'll check it out before we proceed.
