Hey Guys,

@Light - You shouldn't have any trouble figuring out which slots fix which RAM, they won't fit in the wrong location. Also, on eBay, many times the seller will post the end speed that is created by the DDR, I think that they think it makes it more appealing.

Looking forward to what you decide to get.

I got a crucial 512MB, DDR, 266Mhz, CL2.5 from ebay.

I have a problem. I tried to install it, and everything seemed well. I right-clicked my computer to check the Ram and it was 768mb which is correct my 256+ 512 ram.

When I tried to go on the net my firewall came up asking for permission. At start up my computer also said it found new hardware. My sound also didn't work. All of a sudden my PC restarted and wouldnt go into windows. I tried Safemode but it still would not work.

It also said a registry backup was restored. Does this mean the ram wont work with my PC? It felt like the PC didnt recognize any of my installed programs. I took the ram out and a windows xp screen came up checking the C: drive to see if its Consistent. Now my PC is working normal. I havent tried using a program yet. I'm currently making backups of important files.

heres a example of what I got. Crucial Technology CT6464Z265 512MB DDR266 PC2100 Memory at ZipZoomfly

I cant edit my last post, so heres an update.

If I install the crucial ram everything works, but after a minute when I start using programs it freezes. Then it unfreezes and the computer automatically restarts.

The error message is:
Code:
C:\DOCUME~1\LIVING~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf567.dir00\Mini030107-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\LIVING~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf567.dir00\sysdata.xml
Is it faulty ram?

I'm going to try to install the ram again and run a memory test Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

I did the ram check and it had a ton of errors. I also checked the ram that was already in use and it says pc2100U. Is there a difference from pc2100 and pc2100u?

Hey Light,

Before you get too panicky, it is customary to have the higher capacity RAM in the first slot, and the lower in the second.

Try using only the new RAM, placed in the number 1 slot, without the other stick. If you are still having problems, I would run Memtest to determine if the RAM you recieved is faulty, (not uncommon).

Then if you show no errors on the RAM, try putting the old RAM in the number 2 slot, and see if the PC still behaves poorly.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
