Default Broken USB Flash drive

Not sure if I'm the right place with this but anyway.I've got a 512mb PNY flash drive I've been using since last year thats been acting up since yesterday.Whenever I put into my PC and try to open it by clicking on the icon in My Computer it says insert a drivce into disc F.
Do these things break often?I haven't dropped it in water or been banging it about, iots just mostly been on my desk.
I also tried putting it into a different PC and even tried my Playstation2 but still no luck.

Could try a diffrent computer, try formatting it.
Thumb drives actually do have an end of useful life, after they have been used for some time, the electric platelets on the inside do get worn out and tend to forget what is being saved on them. Thumb drives are awesome, but not a good form of critical and long term backup.
