If ur first type of memory is DDR ram make sure u buy DDR Ram for the other slot. Also, MAKE SURE u match the the pc type and speed of the ram. For example if it's DDR pc3200 400mhz make sure it's the same for the stick. Your motherboard could be fried and pheraps will need replacing. If not double check that ur memory is seated properly, that's a major cause of mother failures.

Hi brff15, we really do appreciate your efforts to help out...but unfortauntely your information is incorrect.

You can safely run 2 different speeds...and you can mismatch the motherboard and ram - this will cause some compatability issues - yes...but it will not kill a motherboard.

And please do not resurrect an Answered thread...they have been marked as Answered meaning that no more input is required.

As I said earlier, we do appreciate your efforts to help out, just please make sure your information is correct before posting it.

Umm if your mother can only ask for 400 mhz than, and you put in a 533mhz stick of ram the turn out will not be pretty. It's like asking a man that can only run 10miles to run 20 miles.

It won't actually physically harm the motherboard. Unless you put a DDR2 module in a DDR1 slot.

But yes, I do agree with that.
