Default help with new RAM

previously my comp had both a 256 and a 512 slot of ram in and i have just bought a GB of ram (1GB PC3200 400MHz DDR Memory Module) and slotted it in instead of the 256. however when i click the right button on my comp n look at the ram there, it ses just 1GB of ram. is this because my processor cant handle the 1512mb ram i thought it would be or do i need to do something?

also when i try to play a game i played just last night, it crashed and restarded my computer and has done so the last couple of times. it must have something to do with the ram but i dont know why it would do this. my processor is an SiS but im not sure how to find out the exact model if that would be helpful. if anyone could clear a few things up for me that would be great.
thanks in advance

Hi stid,

Flashing the BIOS means that you update the "operating system" of the BIOS with a new version.

It's pretty risky to do, because if it messes up (even a power spike can mess it up) it will render the computer all but useless.

If you wish to go ahead, please post what motherboard you have, and we'll be able to direct you to the update.

thanks for the reply. ur right it does sound risky and will only try if its a last resort. my motherboard is a K7S 741GXMG. do u have any idea about my original question? (regarding why it only shows a GB and not 1512)

While youre waiting on GaRHaR to get back to you, download this little utility program and try it. When installed click on "mainboard" , and it will tell you how much ram your board will support. Its a great utility that will give you lots of info on your system:
SIW Download
You might try taking the 512 out, and just using the 1gb stick . See how your games run on that. Some older boards wont support over 1gb of ram.
