Question [Answered] How to wipe the memory and start again?

Hi I don't know if this the right place to be but I would like to know how to complete wipe the memory so that I can start again before any troubles. I have the reinstallition disc and the software that came with my PC. I would like it to be has is was before I ever start using the PC. the only thing I am worried about is that I have AVG installed on it and I would lose that if I wipe the memory and it's quite a good anti-virus thing. The thing is I got that installed for nothing from a friend I knew, but there isn't a chance I can get hold of his copy. Can anyone help me please?

Hi Dave, welcome to the forums!

All you really need to do is backup the data you want to keep, then stick your XP cd in the drive, boot off it...and follow the instructions to format your hard drive, and reinstall windows.

If you need help with this, there are many guides we can point you to.

Also, you can download AVG free edition here:
AVG Free Advisor: Free anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-malware tools
It has real time protection, only lacks a few features of the pro edition, works great, and you can upgrade to the pro edition later if you like.

If ur looking for a entire clean boot, than I sujjest using Killdisk the free version. This does it automatically for u, rather thanu doing it manually which in XP can be a pain.Active@ Kill Disk - Hard Drive Eraser - Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com
