I was thinking about puttin some more RAM in my PC, it's 512 now, and I wanna upgrade it to 1gb.

B4 I possibly blow up my machine, would it hurt if I was to use a 512mb chip from another brand? I would think it WOULD, but I need to hear it from other thx.

A different brand will not cause your PC to explode...just make sure it is exactly the same speed as the RAM you are currently running

I quite happily run 2 different makes of RAM in a PC I have.

i always wondered if it made a difference too but i never bothered asking

does it make a difference if they are both pc3200 and one is 200Mhz and the other one is 400Mhz

Your faster ram will run at the slower speed automatically - but you may want to check the timings in the BIOS.

I recently upgraded to 4gb of ram, with 2 sets of ram having 2 different timings...it automatically detected 2.5-3-4-4 which is too fast for my older ram and it was causing BSOD

of course you can run different brands of ram a lot of the ram originally in shop-built pcs have an unknown and unpopular make anyway

i beg to differ (with that unknown and unpopular comment)...it's not true for australia anyway...
they generally put Kingmax memory in all off the shelf PC's...and they're a good noteable brand

It varies Worldwide. I think the saying "get what you pay for" applies here
