Question New PC Different Memory

Hi,

i have just bought a new pc the Emachines (Gateway) E4036. After my old computer packed up. But i upgraded the memory on my packard bell with a 512mb stick of RAM.

I was wondering if i would be able to put this RAM into my new pc in the second slot.

Would this work?

Thanks,

Hi Upgrader,

Providing the RAM is SD and the slot is SD (or DDR/DDR). In other words if it fits, you can stick it in mate

the problem is the ram on my new pc is DDR2 and the ram form my old pc is ddr.

Would it do any harm if i tried to stick the old ram in my new pc even if it didnt work.

Ah, in that case no, you can't mix DDR and DDR2 together mate.

oh thanks. Looks like i will have to buy another memory stick then. On the Crucial System Scanner it says that it is unable to determine my pc model. But it says in Slot 1 that i have 512mb Non-parity DDR2 PC2-5100.

But when i look at the modules on their site and other sites such as ebuyer i don't see any PC2-5100 modules.

Why is this?

That's odd, I can only find references to DDR2 PC2-4200 when related to your PC.

Can you run this: http://www.download.com/3000-2086-10018691.html to get a second opinion on that RAM inside your PC.
