Default Getting IE error Code '0x1001cd11'

I have a Dell 8400 with XP home (SP2). I replaced both 512 MB RAM simms earlier this year but now I periodically get the error code '0x1001cd11' and the message ends "Memory could not be read". I can go back in and use IE again and may or may not get this error. Does this sound like an issue with the memory or another software related problem? I could use some help figuring this out. I may have this in the wrong area (my apologies) so please advise if this is the case.

Hya Tim.

You could try to test it with one stick ata time to see if one is faulty. Or you can run an app like this to test the ram:

http://www.memtest.org/

But it could also be a malware problem, if the above doesn't show anything then please follow the instructions in the "Prework" link below in my sig and post the 2 resulting log files.

Hi Tim,

This appears to be a fairly common problem with IE.
It could be caused by a few things...not necessarily related to IE (as you've already thought).

I'd suggest as your first steps to
1. make sure you don't have any kind of malware including spyware on your computer
2. disable all add-ons in IE (In IE -> tools -> internet options -> programs -> manage add-ons. Disable any toolbar and browser helper you can find, likewise with active X controls. These will still be available afterwards to be reenabled with a click.
3. Make sure you have all the updates from MS, especially anything related to .NET Framework
4. Try a SFC - Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow
If there's problems, it will ask for the cd, if no problems - it will exit automatically.

Failing those, follow the steps here. They are tackeling this problem using HJT, but there was no result at the end of it, noone has replied about it.

It seems there is noone who knows exactly what it means. I'll search around Microsoft to see if it's in their knowledge base for you.

After doing some reading around on the internet, I've located that this issue is also tied in with IIS. Do you have this installed? Uninstall it and see if it helps.

IIS = microsofts webpage hosting services...alot of people use it for designing their own websites.
