Hi there, can i just say it is pretty pointless asking something like this if you don't post any information about your computer, most people would just avoid this thread as it dosen't contain enough information. If you post the computer specifications of both computers i'm sure we will be able to answer your question. So if your old computer is the same as your new one then you can definately move the ram sticks across, but because it is very unlikely that there the same we will require the specifications as there are different types of ram sticks , hope this helps yours Dave

dave has a point.

old computers - depending on the age - can be anything

some memory you can still find on the market, edo, sdram, ddr, ddr2, sodimm fdimm

main 3 are ddr/2 and sdram
most likely your old computer has sdram, and your newer one will have ddr/ddr2 depending on if it's intel or amd.

Please tell us the ram in question (is it DDR? what PC 2100/2700/3200?)
And the motherboard model of your new computer.
Ram is very complicated and can not be just "put" in any computer. You must know if it is compatible with your motherboard.

Usually, if it fits, it will work, but if it's slower memory it can make your CPU run slower than it could. That means you are giving up performance for more memory (usually you would want to get more performance by putting in more memory).
