Default Dell dimension 3000 help pleasee

Hello I would like to buy one stick of 512mb for my dell dimension 3000. There is a memory slot left open. I dont know what to get and I really am clueless. On some websites it shows you 2 512mb of memory and one will be $50 and the other will be $55. Why would this be and could you direct me to a good place to buy some ram. Also some sticks have numbers on them and it says like if you dont know what one to get get this one because it is higher. Any help is greatly apreciated Thanks

Well, there isn't much of a difference in RAM, it will all make your comp go faster. I'd say go to crucial.com and go through the 3 steps to find what RAM is right for your computer. Or, you can download the system scanner here

Hope you find some RAM somewhere!

Unfortunately, with Dells-- they usually have only 2 RAM slots-- and with DDR RAM you should upgrade in pairs... in other words
2- 256MB for 512MB total
2- 512MB for 1024MB total

and so on. Personally I would go for the 1024MB option-- this machine takes up to 2 gigs (2048MB) max-- but that's more than most need... depends on the budget.
Crucial lists 1024 MB kit for this PC for $128.99

No-- you don't have to-- but DDR is supposed to work fastest that way... whether the "average" user would notice is debatable-- depends on what you'll use it for --like gaming? I agree that it's not 'mandatory'. Sorry if I implied that.
