Default Half of RAM not showing up?!?!?

Hello all,

I recently purchased two 1GB PC-2700, CL 2.5, 333 MHz memory cards. However, when I installed them both, it only showed up as 1GB. I took one out, and it showed up as 512 MB (actually, 524). Apparently, it's only reading 50% of the RAM. I went into the CMOS/BIOS thing, and it showed the following values:

CPU Ratio: 12.5
Spread Spectrum: Enabled
CPU Clock: 133
DDR:CPU Ratio: 2.50X
DDR Speed: 333M

I would like to know how to get all of the available RAM. Note: the motherboard (an Albatron) is capable of holding 3 GB of RAM. I called tech support, and the guy said to upgrade my BIOS version, so I will work on that. Is that the solution?
Note: The PC specs in my profile are not from the problem PC.
If you need certain PC specs, post them here and I can provide them.

I'm running XP Home with SP2.

I upgraded my PhoenixBIOS from 4.02 to 4.06, but it is still showing only 524 MB of RAM.

What do you mean by changing both RAM sticks? If you mean interchange them, yes. Both of them, alone, show up as 524 MB. Together, they show up as 1 GB.

Hi tony,

The only question I have is, is your video card seperate from the motherboard? The reason I ask is because if the video and motherboard are the same (integrated), that will take up some memory. I doubt it will take 1GB, but it will take up some. One possibilty could be that one of the memory cards are bad. It does happen. All you can do is to try each one, one at a time to see if they both work. Something else that could be the problem is that one of the slots is bad. What you can do is if they both work, try putting them in different slots on the board. It also could be that one of the cards is not getting seated properly. I have done that before. I installed some ram, thought it was seated all the way, when I turned the computer on it did not show up. It turned out that it was not in all the way.

Hope this helps
