Default [Answered] - Ram problem

hi. you will have to excuse me if this question sounds silly im not that good on computers

I have a motherboard given to me complete with a processer. my problem is i don't have any Ram memory for it, but i don't want to go out and spend money on Ram and then finding out the motherboard is not working.

i put the motherboard in a case with a power supply thing and wired it up. I then switched it on at the wall. On the motherboard a green light comes on and the fan for the processor starts up, but nothing comes up on the monitor

Is there away of testing the motherboard without ram in it.

Hi there DrewTheBlack and welcome to PCHF.

Unfortunately you won't be able to get anything displayed on the screen without RAM, just so you know the minimum you require for powering on the system is:
  • Power supply
  • Motherboard
  • Processor
  • RAM
  • Video card (normally onboard these days)
Without all of the above the system will not turn on.

Do you have a spare machine or know a friend with a machine that you could 'borrow' the RAM from and test inside your PC?
