Default Gigabyte problems

I posted this in the mobo forum, but I think it belongs here.

So I have this Gigabyte Mobo (GA-K8NE) and I have a serious problem with ram. I got the mobo packaged with a great proc (64bit AMD3400), but I have, since installation, had problems with memory. Since I've had it, I've only been able to get my one 512MB crucial stick to work. My other crucial 2700 stick wouldn't work, so I thought maybe the mobo only supports 400 and higher. So I go to the store last week to get more ram and I try PNY. That fails, so I look on PNY's site (since gigabyte has no ram compatabiltiy charts) and see that the particular stick I bought is supposed to be compatible with my board. In anger and frustration, I return it. I then look on Gigabyte's website and find that there is a link to kingston memory on their site. So I go get some kingston memory, and make sure that it's on the compatibility list. I get the memory home, pop it in, and I get the long beep of death.

Can anyone tell me what memory works with this damn board?

Default Memory

Hi Glick,

Welcome to The PCHF,
Ok then a real , not fun.
Right, please try a couple of things for us. Firstly remove all the memory and put the module of memory that works into each of the memory slots in turn, and try to boot the pc (this would rule out a motherboard memory slot fault).
Secondly, is there anywhere in the BIOS that you can change the FSB (Front Side Bus) speed? which would affect some slower memory. Ideally go to the BIOS (hit del/f2 on power up) and load system defaults which resets the BIOS to the basic level it needs just to run.
Let us know how you do.

Well, I tried it, the memstick that works will work in all 3 slots. I defaulted the bios, but it is still clocked at 200.

Hi Glick,

Can you change your memory timing from 200MHz to 166MHz and see if that works?

Hi Glick,
This is indeed a very strange one, on one hand it appears that you memory might have a compatibilty issue but then you say that you initially tried both Crucial sticks, and that all the slots work individually.
Could you see if you can put all the memory into another pc to see wheather the motherboard may have som strange fault where it will only handle one stick of memory at a time?
I'll have to have a look around see if I can come up with any other solutions.
Let us know how it goes

Well, the problem is, NO other stick will work with the mobo. I popped my friend's into the machine and it didn't work. I did notice that the stick I have is Unbuffered, not registered. Do you think that makes a big difference?
