no i did not remove power cord...i turned the elecricity off. i put the old ram back in and it makes no difference

do u mean remove all RAM inside my computer and then try turning it on?

No , he means to try the sticks one by one.


Do you mean you just "normally" shut of youre pc , or do you mean a separete switchs on the back of youre pc (psu) ?

no swith on the back. i have to hold down the power button to turn off the pc...the on swith light doesnt seem to light up anymore even though everything inside seems to be running.. could it be a problem with my hard drive. i have not tried the new memory stick by itself btu i have tried the old one by itself...

So you placed the ram in there with power connected to the board... ouch i think.

There is a change that you fried youre motherboard and/or ram... or even more. You can try to boot up with all non essential hardware removed , or try a third stick of ram , but my best bet is an other motherboard im afraid.
