Hi all,
for one reason or another i had to re-install xp. after enduring this, i was faced with the problem that my pc wouldn't properly boot up. i have 2 x 512 ddr ram. the problem seemed to be rectified when i put 1 particular stick, in 1 particular slot with the other left out.

my assumption was that 1 ram stick was knackered, as it seemed to run fine, if a little slower with 1 stick.
i went and bought a new 512 ddr ram stick and input this on its own and the pc won't boot up. it also won't boot up with the 'good' one in as well. only when the 'good' one is in the partucular ram slot on its own, will it boot up.

has anyone any ideas?
any help would be much appreciated.

How many RAM slots do you have?
Have you looked at the "dodgy" slot for any obvious obstructions like dust etc (air-blast it)
Have you updated your bios lately?

i have 3 in total. 1 green which seems to be the 'main' one. then 2 purple ones. the green one always had a ram stick in it. then the further away purple one had the other.

there are no obstructions.

i think you may be correct about the bios because it was fine before re-installing xp. the bios was wiped, after that there was problems. i downloaded a program to flash the bios but no difference has been made.

the specs are on the attchment if that may help
