Default Trying to configure Dual Channel ram...need help

Okay, this is the deal, I currently purchased a new stick of 512 mb PC3200 ram for my computer. My set up on my slots was like this...

Slot 1: 512 MB
Slot 2: 256 MB
Slot 3: 512 MB
Slot 4: 256 MB

Now the new stick of ram I purchased which is in slot 3, has these specs...

Frequency: 166 MHZ 200 MHZ

Cas Latency: 2.5 3.0

While my old 512 MB had these specs...

Frequency: 166 MHZ 200 MHZ

Cas Latency: 2.0 2.5

So basically the cas latency is different, i thought this wouldn't matter while trying to get a dual channel set up, I mean even Intel said this on their site...

http://www.intel.com/support/motherb.../cs-009033.htm

The Key words are below...
(Where they say "Same timing specifications)
"Note: Configurations that do not match the above conditions will revert to Single Channel mode.

The following conditions do not need to be met:

* Same brand
* Same timing specifications
* Same DDR speed"

By the way I have a D865PERL motherboard, and am using Kingston PC3200 Value ram...please help me figure out how to do dual channel because after installing the ram, I go into Bios and it still says "Single channel" I even tried clicking "Optimal Settings" and it still didn't work, and I also tried just putting in the 2 sticks of 512 and it still didn't work.

Thanks for your time

:wow I cant beliveve Microsoft would say such a thing... It matters all the way.. It has to be the same speed, same size chip, and 90% of the time it has to be the same brand as they all run different timings as you can see.

If you want dual channel you would need 4 256 mrg sticks 4 512 meg sticks...or 2 256 meg stick or 2 512 meg stick's. It has to be the same size and speed ram stick or it wont work!! Time to email Microsoft... Pc 3200 is 200mhz in single mode dual chanel would of course be 400mhz..

Sorry about the bad new's!

Edit: Microsoft had it correct you need to read all of it.

Rules to Enable Dual Channel Mode
To achieve Dual Channel mode, the following conditions must be met:

Matched DIMM configuration in each channel
Same Density (128MB, 256MB, 512MB, etc.)
Same DRAM technology (128Mb, 256Mb, or 512Mb)
Same DRAM bus width (x8 or x16)
All either single-sided or dual-sided
Matched in both Channel A and Channel B memory channels
Populate symmetrical memory slots (Slot 0 or Slot 1)
Note: Configurations that do not match the above conditions will revert to Single Channel mode.
The following conditions do not need to be met:
Same brand
Same timing specifications
Same DDR speed
Note: Memory channel speed is determined by the slowest DIMM module populated in the system.

Well I just had my friend over, and looking over the Ram we found that there's those black spots on both sides of the Ram (the new chip I got) one of the specifications was that they had to be both either single or double sided. But the part that angers me is that stupid newegg didn't have it as single or double sided on the website...

So could you guys please list everything that must be the same...in simple terms please? lol

Oh yeah another thing, do you guys think Newegg will make an exchange for me?

yes new egg will exchange for you, there good for that...

Ok you have pc3200 correct.. Not look at your memory or download this http://web.t-online.hu/fiery/downloa...esthome220.exe

Go to new egg and look for the same exact ram and size ram thats all you have to do. The single or double sided wont matter because it will be the same ram..

You can post back your results from everest back here if you would liek me to look at it for you and show you exatcly what to buy..

Make a short log and post back here..

ok newegg does not have your memory?
Download this program and report back what it say's http://yusoft.kulichki.com/files/spdinfo.zip

If you want dual ram your either going to have to get another 512 megs of SpecTek PC3200 or heck I dont know if you have different ram sticks for all your slot's
