Default [Answered] Ram

Hey i bought some ram to upgrade a computer and i am having some issues.? The computer is a Dell Dimension l866r w/ a 128mb stick of PC133 ram.? I purchased an additional 256 stick or pc133 ram and when i plug it into the second slot and turn the computer on, the screen stays blank, but i can tell the computer is goin through its normal boot up because of the beeps and such (also if i turn it off manually i have to hold it for some time when nomrally if it is booting up or not booted correctly i dont have to hold the button to power it down).? So i shut down the computer and take the new 256 stick out, and when i turn the computer back on i get a message to the effect of "There is less memory detected than last boot up".? So it recognizes the additional ram....

I tried pluggin in just the new ram and removing the old and that did not work either...? Could this be a mobo driver issue? or a setting in the BIOS? or does the BIOS need to be updated?

any help would be greatly appreciated..

hmm well, unfortunately i ordered it offline, and only had 30 days to send in the mail in rebate, so i sent that is so im about 99% sure that i cant return it...

No Merlin they arent the same brand... I just find it odd that it seems to boots fine, it just doesnt send out a signal (also i should have pointed out that the monitor status light changes when i turn it on w/ both sticks of ram in. It changes to on/normal...)

To all who have had similar issues as this...

It appeared to be the memory was faulty. However, a BIOS update would show if this was true - a BIOS update or a CMOS reset will generally fix most blank screen issues regarding memory....the settings may have been too high for the new memory.
