Default [Answered] can too much ram slow a game?

hi
my dad has a dell latitude d800, it has a 1.6ghz cpu and a 64mb video card and 512mb ram
it is the only computer i have access to that will play my more recent games
everything worked fine until 256 meg of memory was added to it and now whenever i play games on it they run at a much slower speed
i have heard from someone that too much memory can slow games because it will take longer to go through the extra memory
is this true? or is it a coinsidence that this problem started occouring at the same time the memory was added and there is a different casue?
any help would be appreciated

Haven't heard of that myself chris. Are you sure that you have the right memory (new) in the laptop? Also you might want to up the virtual memory on the laptop

To change the Virtual Memory setting in Windows XP

1.
Open System in Control Panel.

2.
On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

3.
In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

4.
Under Virtual memory, click Change.

5.
Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.

6.
Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box or set to "System managed size" and then click Set.

If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum page file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. Increases typically do not require a restart.

Totally not true!!! More memory equals less time Windows uses the Swap file. The problem may be you have 2 different kinds of ram in there, a bad stick of ram. 2 different speeds or ram etc... What operating system are you using>?

Download Everst in my signature it will test your system to see if your ram is macthing or if there ae any errors

I have to agree with merlin.

This type of thing normally happens if you install memory of different types/speeds. If you install memory that is of a slower speed to the RAM you currently have installed then the system will run at the speed of the slowest chip. Very stupid - YES.

Couldnt find the link in your signature so I will post it here (am I blind :|):
