Default [Pending] installing more memory

Hello everybody, i am having problems. Today i brought some more memory for my computer, i brought infineon pc2100/266mhz ecc reg ddr 512mb. But i put it in the machine and it still does not notice it, it comes up with the original 256mb ddr ram i already have in there. I have got a AMD DURON(tm) processor 1.19ghz, my motherboard is the ecs K7S5A.
With windows XP

I do not know alot about computers, so i do not know if the memory is compatiable with my machine, or if i have to change any settings in bios.

can someone help me thanks

Hi there.

Well, according to your motherboard specs you seem to have bought the right memory.

System Memory 2x 184-pin DDR SDRAM PC-1600/2100
2x 168-pin SDRAM PC-100/133
1.0 GB Maximum Memory
A simple thing but have you tried the 512mb stick on its own? The reason I say this is because the original stick may be PC1600 and the two won't work together.

You may have to "clear the cmos" before you use the new memory. I have included the manual for your motherboard here as an attachment. there is a section in there about clearing the cmos.

Also make sure that you have the bios set to "default" setting.

Best thing to do is upgrade your bios.

You can find the latest bios for your motherboard here: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Downloads/ProductsDetail_Download.aspx?CategoryID=1&Typeid=4 &detailid=192&DetailName=Bios&DetailDesc=K7S5A(3.1 )&MenuID=35&LanID=8

Make sure you read ALL the stuff at the top:
IMPORTANT NOTE:

* Please do not update the BIOS if your system is running fine.
* Please do not update the BIOS if the BIOS patch doesn't pertain to your current problem.
* Please read the update description and special note carefully before updating the new BIOS.
* Unsuccessful BIOS flash may cause the system fails to boot up.
* Please make sure your M/B PCB version number at first then download the right BIOS for the upgrade. (How to recognize the M/B PCB version).
There is also a link on that page to tell you how to use the Flash Utility program.
