Default [Answered] How much is enough RAM?

I currently have 512mb of ram in my pc. My friend has 1gb and swears that this makes his pc that much faster than mine. I can't see it myself - will it make that much difference? I also heard that Windows doesn't even use ram above 512mb.

My spec
WinXP
2ghz P4
ATI Radeon 9600se grafix

I find that this is useful for heavy apps and if you are a hard core gamer.

I might be the exception but I've got a 1Gb of ram and I'm regularly using between 655mb and 800mb. I do, however, run VMWare WS 4.5 and several other OS's so a 1GB helps.

The thing to remember is that Windows XP will swap regardless of how much memory you have to don't buy it for that reason.

Si

You're just showing off Si, but i agree it does tend to eat in to the ram when you're running windows xp, windows nt server with exchange 5.5, windows 2003 server with exchange 2003 and windows nt workstation all at the same time..... virtual pc is a wicked thing! Bring on the MCSE
