Heya all,
I just wanted to enlighten people on what seems to be a pretty sweet deal I stumbled upon. I have been looking for a Network Attached Storage device for some time now with very little luck.
All my searching has either found something too expensive with good reviews. Or something in the right price range, but with mixed or poor reviews. I also tried out a Western Digital World Book which I returned the next day because it was just a terrible product.....omgz
I gave up after a while until a few days ago I restarted my search and found the Netgear ReadyNAS duo -
Newegg.com - NETGEAR RND2150 500GB Network Storage - Network Storage (NAS) Every review I have read for it is very promising. PCworld has it as their top rated NAS as of April 30th -
PC World - Chart - Top 5 Network-Attached Storage Devices
That Newegg link is for the 500 gigabyte version. It is $379. It comes with one hard drive already and if you select the Seagate combo deal, you get a 2nd Seagate 500 gig hard drive for only 10 dollars more. And they currently have free shipping too
Features:
RAID 1 Mirroring support for data redundancy
HTTP and FTP access with secure server...can't wait to try that out.
Can attach a USB printer and use it as a print server
Backup button for front USB port for quick backups of flash drives, cameras, etc.
Can stream media directly to a bunch of different devices including Xbox 360, PS3, etc.
...and plenty of other cool features...
Supported Protocols:
CIFS/SMB for Windows
AFP 3.1 for Mac OS 9/X
NFS v2 / v3 for Linux and UNIX
HTTP/S for web browsers
FTP/S support
Of all the cons I have read, the only one that seems like it could be annoying to some people is it doesn't support JBOD or Striping. That isn't a big deal to me because I want to use the second drive bay for data redundancy.
Just to note, this currently isn't my review of the product. It will be arriving this week and I will post a review as soon as I've played with it. Hopefully a good one

. I just wanted to put up the info cause the combo deal ends 6/30 and the free shipping probably will end 6/29 (I think Newegg changes their shipping deals every Sunday).
