I've not had any real problems.
Vista was a big resource hog until I turned off Aero and Superfetch.

XP has it's excesses too... I have half the silly eye-candy disabled... and many services either on 'manual' or 'disabled'.
The thing that turns me off of Vista is that User Accounts nonsense.
I'd shut that off right away.

For the kinda things i use my Pc for i dont find UAC that intrusive, and when it does pop up its a good reminder that i might be about to do something stupid!
