Default [Discussion] Red or Blu? Anyone into the new High Def formats?

As many of you know there are two competing High Definition formats battling it out like the old Beta vs. VHS war.

The way I see it, HD DVD is offering their hardware cheaper while Blu Ray is perceptualy selling their s/w cheaper (thru alot of BOGO sales - buy one get one). Warner may be the deciding factor but both sides have a nice list of big names.

For me, it was easy to jump into the fray. I already had a Xbox360 so I picked up a HDAO (High def add on) and now get to watch HD DVD's for (at the time), $200.

Anyone who has a HD capable TV/PJ cannot deny that King Kong looks AMAZING!!!

So....who's jumped into the fray and which side have you bought into? If you are on the fence, and I honestly think this war is gonna last a long time, there are universal players that are available but pricey. As always though, those prices will plummet soon enough.

Thoughts?

There are just not enough differences in the two. It's all about money. When the final showdown comes the manufacturers will just write the firmware to be compatable with both. Alot has already straddled the fence (so to speak) with Sony leading the pack...lol

Not enough differences? Hmmm....what about the new and improved Sony root kit called DRM? That stuff has serious scare factor involved.

Upscalling your regular dvd's is also something important, and why not have a REON chip do it best? At least that's what I've heard. HD DVD does this by far the best with their players.

I think that Sony Blu-ray will win. There are already BRD Burners on the market, a good sign, and the Bluray has a much higher capacity than HD DVDs. We havent dived in yet, because we dont really need to yet, and it is too expensive

Root kits are nothing new Iguana Man. Sony has already taken a spanking over their supposed DRM. A trojan by any other name is still a trojan. Oh...I'm sorry Sony. It's Digital Rights Management. Ya but who's rights...

I suppose Iguana Man, But I just haven't seen anything in the technical specs to get me excited about either format. The specs are often overstated to make the product look good so I must remain the skeptic.

Don't get caught up in the specs too much. Just go visit a friend who has a large HD capable TV and an XBox360 with HDAO. Pop in King Kong, and see for yourself. It's a thing of beauty my friend.
