Default New GPU on the way...

Yay.

I ordered the Radeon X2900 1GB yesterday, i should recieve it today .

i'm just a little excited - ive never owned a high-end GPU before .

It cost me £315 from Overclockers.co.uk, kinda pricey but i'm hoping it'll be worth it - and with any luck it'll solve my crashing issues i have with practically all my games (which i believe is due to VRAM).

I'm selling my current card on ebay, bids starting at 50p, no reserve, if anyone is interested .

I also planned on purchasing Intels newest Kentsfield processor, the QX6850 (which boasts the new FSB 1333MHZ) but i decided not to as i could easily overclock my QX6700 processor to 3GHZ and in doing so up the FSB to around 1222mhz.

Besides, i think i'll wait till intel release the new Yorkfield line of processors (The sucessor to the Kentsfield) due out (according to wikipedia, great site) late 2007/early 2008

Hey, Thingamajig. Mind a link to the auction? Depending on what it is, I may look into it as a temporary solution before I get my (expensive) goal-GPU.

Did you do er.. research before buying it? I have a friend who's got an X2900 and he swapped it for a 8800GTX because it was better :S

i heard that the radeon X2900 is cr*p. not the hardware itself, which is excellent, it is lack of mature, good drivers. with better drivers from ATi on the way, (hopefully) performance should be able to achieve near-GTS, GTX levels. As it is, it is supposed to have very good performance, but nothing on par with GTX, but i think you made a good choice. just dont try crossfire with them. from what i read on anandtech, that actually decreases performance without the necessary drivers, which again should be forethecoming
