Did you know...

"If Google had a black screen, taking into account the huge number of page views, according to calculations, 750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved."

In response Google created a black version of its search engine, called Blackle, with the exact same functions as the white version, but obviously with lower energy consumption:

Help spread the word... use Blackle - Energy Saving Search

Thanks DV, but there are still millions of CRT monitors out there

And LCDs will use less power, but it will still have a small effect...well, in theory it should at any rate.

I still have a CRT.

If you have the room-- I do... it works Very sharp and large viewing area (20 inch viewable)

NEC Mutlisync FP 1355

I do have my power-saving settings enabled-- but I will look into Blackle--I do Google about every 5 minutes when I'm online... and many times I prefer a dark background-- easier on my tired old eyes

Just one thing I don't like. I use Google caches very frequently, and it's just too bad that they are not shown in Blackle.
