Default Gaming Laptops - Haha!

Heh, over the last...say, 3/4 months, ive been arguing with a few Live Messenger contacts at how over-rated and just plain rubbish "Gaming Laptops" really are.

Usually they'd say rubbish like "But its ALIENWARE!" which, to be perfectly honest means nothing, at least nothing with any substance. Comon, the only difference between a alienware rig and any other high-end rig is the casing, which is purely superficial and doesn't justify thier high pricetags.

(speaking of cases. i'd love to get my hands on a Thermaltake Kandalf:

Such a shame that i'd have to buy a new desk first. its just far too big for my current one.)

I came across this excellent rant today by Chris who really sums up my views on "Gaming Laptops", which you can find here:

Gaming laptops are a complete joke

I'd like your opinions on the matter, so please discuss .

Gaming laptops are for those who travel and don't enjoy being bored all day - otherwise yeah waste of money but for those who need them - they are a god-sent.

I don't like the ideas of gaming laptops.

You want a high-end rig, yet new parts come out all the time. Systems are usually considered 'old' after three years at the very most, but hardware is usually unupgradable in laptops. So you are stuck with the same old thing, unless you buy a new laptop every three years.

Desktops ftw!

I would never buy a gaming laptop, i would buy a cheap 1 so that i could browse the net ect. while out, but i wouldnt try using one for gaming, i reckon desktops are the only way to go for gaming, the kandalf may be too big, but Thermaltake has quite a few good mid sized cases, personally i own the armor jr., looks very nice and has good ventalation, excellent if you dont have the extra room

Thats what i'd buy one for too.

But even that seems pretty useless - there are mobile phones out there which can do this.

Yeh Hengis' lappy is pretty decent

I much prefer a desktop for gaming, but if I required portability i would probably get a gaming laptop (not that i would play games very often )

Also depends on the games you want to play on it.

Systems are usually considered 'old' after three years at the very most
I'd say after 1 month they are old lol.
