Howdy all, I want to build a small form factor pc so I can have it in my Living room to connect to my Home Theater..

Problem is I never built one.. Do any of you ever built a Small pc and used the small form factor cases? Would like some input on the cases.. I will be using an opteron 185 (have it lying around) just would like to see if others have built a baby pc.. Will be hooking it up to An Onkyo THX receiver and I have Klipsch synergy series, and a nice ol Velodyne 15/12 powered sub..

Can be a nightmare, as it's not only the motherboard, but also the cards need to be SFF, and this does limit what graphics cards you can actually buy. You won't be running GeForce 7800 for example, and I'm not aware of any SFF motherboards that hold the opteron 185. I would personally buy one ready made, as they are just as cheap these days.

There are loads of different size and configuration SFF cases, for example: 3dGameMan.com - #688 - SilverStone SG01 Evolution SFF Case

MadMatt was also going to build one made from a whiskey bottle!: http://www.pchelpforum.com/lounge/27...whisky-pc.html

SSF pc's are a bit of a pain to keep neat and tidy with cable managment...but it is important to keep the airflow clear, because they're so small.

Make sure all your hardware is SSF compatable... biggest mistake many people make.

I hear ya about the wire management. I have a huge CM stacker and another Lian Li case.. The cm stacker by far is the easiest to manage wires..I have built my own for years, just thought it would be a nice touch to build a SSF pc for my home theatre..This way I dont have to pay and extra 10 bucks a month for my DVR... Wont be overclocking it so it should stay cool. As my 3800+ default heatsink /fan kept it at 41 c full load torture test etc after 72 hours of burn in..
Was hoping to use my opteron but I dont see any mobo's that support it wish it was socket 939..

Yea, AMD stock coolers aren't too bad actually...especially the X2's and Opertons...
