Default Why dont backgrounds in emails, show up in some email programs?

I use Incredimail sometimes, cause it has some nice backgrounds, and interesting emoticons. Its a nice change of pace occasionally. But ive noticed that when i send an email to someone who uses web-mail(yahoo, hotmail..ect) , they dont see the background. People that use desktop mail see it fine, just like i sent it. Why is this, and are there settings that can be changed, or is this just a characteristic of web mail? Thanks

Welcome to PCHF uncleed.

Unfortunatly, it's just a characterisitc of webmail (as you put it).

Basically, they disable everything, to keep the email similar to the website, so it all flows and looks neat and tidy for the people who are using it.

Some people actually object to(backgrounds) HTML email-- for security purposes... they have the ability to 'strip' html-code out of any emails they receive automatically. Html emails CAN be used to spread viruses/worms-- so they err on the side of caution. Pocomail-- my email app can be set to do this. I'd gotten angry replies from people when I first started using email asking me to stop using backgrounds or smileys-- so I just send plain-text, now.

Thanks for the reply, i sorta figured maybe it had something to do with html, and security. Is there a way to enable it in (Yahoo, Hotmail..) or is it disabled by default, and thats it?

I'm afraid that is controlled by the recipient-- not the sender... you can enable it at your end, I'm sure, but that does not mean your message will be displayed THAT WAY at the other end ...without the permission of the recipient. If it's all friends of yours and they're okay with it, send them a message telling them you'd like to do this. All they can say is "no"

This is all friends and family, that enjoy the change of scenery once in a while from plain text email. I can enable/disable html with my email programs, and i know they have to enable it on their end. This stuff is all scanned by my machine, their machine, my server, their server, so we feel pretty safe with it. The ones that have desktop mail programs dont have a problem , its the ones that use web-mail . My question is, how to enable it in (yahoo, hotmail...ect) . I have a yahoo account too, and i can send a message from the incredimail to my yahoo account, and all the emoticons, and animations show up, just not the background images. We cant seem to figure out how to make it work. Dont know if youre familiar with yahoo, or hotmail, but are there settings somewhere that we`re missing? Thanks.
