Default Reccomended processor?

Hi

I am looking for a good processor for converting .avi files to dvd. Right now it takes a riduclously long time (days) to convert one file to dvd format. I'm guessing I need a much faster processor. The one I have just now is a celeron 700 mhz which very old. What would be an ideal processor for me?

Thanks

Hi illastic1!
My welcome to PC Helpforum!

What are the other specifications of you current system?

If you want to buy a new processor, do you know that you'll for sure buy a new mainboard, and probably new RAM?

I'm not quite sure what processor best suites to this, it also depends on your budgets.

One of our experts will get back to you on this soon.

Blue

The specifications of my system are...

Model : Packard Bell iconnect 1300
Processor: Intel Celeron 700 Mhz
RAM: 256 mb's
Video Memory: Intel i810-L Direct APG
Sound Chip: 64Voices Stereo Sound
Motherboard: Houston
Hard Disks: 300GB External Maxtor 6 L300R0, 80GB Maxtor 6Y080L0, 20GB ST3120413A

My main problem is that my computer takes days to perform tasks like convert .avi files to mpeg making it barely possible to put the films onto dvd. I would want to spend as little as possible but I'd pay for what is needed.

Cheers

I would recommend to upgrade the entire pc , but i dont know if that is within youre budget.

I would stick with an Intel processor for video converting , they are better at that them AMD.

Let us know what direction you want to go , and what you would want to spend on it.

That would be the fastest pc availeble , since video converting uses alot of ram and processing power.

Something like 4Ghz and 3gb ram would do very nice , but that comes with a big price tag.

But something like a 2.6Ghz with 1gb ram would also still make a world of difference with what you have now. For alot lower price tag as the above.

It really depends on what you want to/can spend on it.
